It doesn’t happen every day that a simple village belle challenges a mighty queen. But that’s what seems to be happening at the V Shantaram Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan awards, the nominations for which were out recently. And among the actresses vying for the best actress award are two of apni Bollywood hotties as well. So, Amrita Rao as the rustic village potter-woman from Welcome to Sajjanpur prepares to take on Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan’s Jodha in Jodhaa Akbar. Interestingly both characters required the actresses to polish their language skills for these roles — Ash worked on her chaste Hindi and Amrita worked on getting the right Bagelkhandi dialect. However, while their respective roles are as different as they come, the two Bollywood beauties have something else to bond over apart from their Bollywood roots. That both Amrita and Ash are fellow Mangaloreans. But the two professionals certainly aren’t going to let this South connection stop them from giving each other some tough competition, right?
